Client Profile: Broadcasting Authority of Ireland
For week 6 in our Client Profile Series we profile another client whose commitment to disability inclusion really stood out to us - The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.
The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) is the regulator of broadcasting services in Ireland. They license radio and television services, determine broadcast codes and rules, monitor and enforce compliance of licensed broadcasters and decide on complaints from viewers on content on all broadcasting services. This is a highly regarded institution acting as an effective monitor of standards across Irish broadcasters.
Ability Focus were delighted to have the opportunity to work with the BAI to deliver Disability Awareness Training to their staff through our Live Online (Remote) Disability Awareness Training programme.
Training was delivered through four x 1-hour live and fully interactive sessions over a two-week period. This delivery format suited the requirements of the BAI as it only required one hour of commitment per day over four days. Participants learned about effective communication, disability and diversity, statistics relating to disability, Irish and international legislation and the topic of Reasonable Accommodation in the workplace.
Jane McCarthy, HR Manager with the BAI co-ordinated training and it was great to see someone place such importance in ensuring as many employees of BAI attended the training as possible. After each training sessions we had plenty of engagement and some excellent questions were asked and great points made.
At Ability Focus, we regularly have phone calls and emails with participants individually after each session, and what really stood out to us was the high level of regard in which the BAI is held by those who work there. They clearly are leading by example in structuring a supportive work environment and a place where inclusion is not only supported, but valued.
