Our commitment to impactful and contemporary disability awareness training is the core on which Ability Focus has established itself as the leading provider of disability awareness training in Ireland. 90% Government Grant Training Rebate

Did you know there is a grant scheme which rebates private sector employers up to 90% of the cost of disability awareness training? Because we are an accredited training provider and our disability training programmes are certified, private sector companies who provide disability awareness training for their employees are eligible to apply for grant assistance under the Disability Awareness Support Scheme (DASS).

This Disability Awareness training programme gives a comprehensive overview of Disability Awareness through a live online learning platform. Programme delivery is through four x 1-hour fully interactive training sessions.

This industry leading programme has received an Endorsement Award from the L&DI for excellence, best practice, and innovation in learning & development, ensuring participants are delivered a disability training programme which has been externally reviewed and validated. It has also been independently CPD certified and accredited.

The programme aims to address myths and misconceptions that employers and employees may have around disability while enhancing knowledge of Ireland’s most diverse group. Topics covered include

• Disability statistics
• Diversity within disability
• Challenging assumptions about disability
• History of disability in Ireland
• Legislation and its relevance to disability
• Disability etiquette
• Barriers to inclusion for people with disabilities
• Discrimination and bias
• Creating an inclusive society
• Reasonable Accommodation in the workplace

On completion of this programme participants will have a much greater understanding of disability awareness. Participants will also have greater confidence and knowledge when engaging disabled people, both as valued clients/customers and work colleagues.

Because this is a fully certified and accredited disability equality programme, private sector businesses will be entitled to apply for grant assistance under the Disability Awareness Support Scheme (DASS). This scheme covers up to 90% of the cost of this disability training.

Our Live Online Disability Awareness Training Programme is open to members of the public and is delivered at set dates throughout the year. This L&DI endorsed, CPD accredited programme is aimed at individuals within organisations who have a specific interest in this type of disability training.

This training programme is ideal for Management, Disability Liaison Officers, Access Officers, HR professionals, Talent Acquisition or anyone with an interest in increasing personal or professional awareness of disability.

While some organisations cannot commit to disability awareness/disability equality training for significant numbers of employees, other businesses may simply have one or two staff members who have an interest in this type of disability training. This service offering delivers our award winning, L&DI endorsed disability awareness training programme to individuals and small groups.

At Ability Focus we recognise that not all organisations can commit to a 4-hour disability awareness training programme. We therefore deliver a suite of disability awareness/disability equality training programmes to suit the time requirements of client organisations.

We regularly deliver disability awareness training programmes which are 2-hours, 2.5-hours and 3-hours in duration. These impactful and engaging programmes are all completed in one sitting.

If requested, we can also format programmes with different delivery schedules. All programmes qualify for the 90% DASS rebate grant.

This disability awareness training programme gives a comprehensive overview of disability through an interactive and informative half day on-site delivery. This programme is aimed at front facing staff who engage members of the public in their daily duties.

The programme aims to address myths and misconceptions that employers and employees may have around disability while enhancing knowledge of Ireland’s most diverse group through effective service provision.

• Diversity within disability
• Myths and assumptions about disability
• Disability etiquette in service provision
• Barriers to inclusion in service provision
• Discrimination and bias towards customers with disabilities
• Reasonable accommodation & key points in service provision

On completion of this disability equality programme participants will have a greater awareness of effective service provision for customers, service users and members of the public who have disabilities.

Delivery of this on-site programme is over a half day and includes group work, interactive tasks, Q&A’s and video sharing.

Because this is a fully certified and accredited disability training programme, private sector businesses will be entitled to apply for grant assistance under the Disability Awareness Support Scheme (DASS). This scheme covers up to 90% of the cost of training.

This is the only Reasonable Accommodation training programme in Ireland. This comprehensive training programme aims to inform participants about the important topic of ensuring best practice employment and service supports for people with disabilities.

Areas of focus during the training programme include:

• Definition of reasonable accommodation
• Irish and European legislation
• The 5 key areas to reasonable accommodation provision
• Case law review

This programme is ideal for business owners, managers, disability liaison officers, Access Officers, HR professionals, Talent Acquisition and is delivered over 2-hours or 3-hours, depending on client preference. Programme delivery is over one morning/afternoon.

This industry leading training programme is aimed at managers, human resource professionals, talent acquisition and hiring managers who are involved in the recruitment of new colleagues.

Disability impacts well over 700,000 people living in Ireland. That is more than 1 job seeker in 7 within the Republic of Ireland. At Ability Focus we believe that organisations who are inclusive of disability during the recruitment process are not only demonstrating a progressive organisational culture, but they are creating opportunity for both themselves as well as opportunity for this hugely diverse and talented group.

This comprehensive training programme lays the foundation for senior colleagues and those involved in talent acquisition/recruitment to ensure they are giving appropriate consideration to disability in all aspects of the recruitment process. We are proud to have delivered this training programme to many leading organisations in the public, semi-state and private sectors.

Programme duration is 2.5-hours in length and is fully interactive. There will be a 15-minute comfort/screen break after 60 minutes.

This Autism Awareness training programme takes an in-depth look at autism with a view to creating greater levels of confidence when it comes to supporting autistic colleagues and service users. We look at key learnings around autism, language and terminology, reasonable accommodation and barriers to inclusion with a key focus on supportive communication through meetings, social interactions and work tasks.

The programme is 1-hour in duration and is delivered via Live Online Webinar format only. We also deliver an additional 1-hour programme which builds upon learnings from this programme. This additional programme focuses on effective service provision, supporting autistic children, inclusive design tips and supportive interviews/meetings with autistic people.

Our Autism Awareness programme is requested by increasing numbers of public and private sector organisations and we are proud to say feedback is that the clarity of delivery as well as easily digestible information makes for an enjoyable and educational experience.

90% Government Grant Rebate for Private Sector

Private sector companies who provide Disability Awareness Training for their employees will be eligible to apply for grant assistance. This can cover up to 90% of the cost of the training. This grant is funded under The Department of Social Protection and is known as the Disability Awareness Support Scheme (DASS). Reasonable Accommodation


At Ability Focus we want to create a workplace where people are not disabled by their working environment. We have a sector leading knowledge of reasonable accommodation and act as advisors to government departments, large commercial semi states and multinationals in this important area.

Reasonable Accommodation Consultancy

We provide reasonable accommodation supports and advice to government, access teams, SME’s, HR professionals DLO’s and line managers. We also provide support to organisations who have staff returning to work after acquiring a disability. Our aim is to ensure best practice procedures are followed, ensuring a positive workplace environment for valued employees.

We work with organisations to develop Reasonable Accommodation Policies, and advise on the effective implementation of new procedures. Ability Focus acts on a consultancy basis to government and many of the leading public, semi-state and private sector organisations in Ireland when implementing reasonable accommodation supports.

Reasonable Accommodation Policies

The reasonable accommodation process or ‘procedural aspect to reasonable accommodation’ is a key component to the provision of effective supports for workplace colleagues and valued customers.

We ensure that Reasonable Accommodation Policies are formatted with a focus on ensuring organisation wide knowledge of the reasonable accommodation process. We work with HR teams and line managers to ensure continuity of approach across the organisation. Supports are also given in creating greater awareness of ‘what constitutes knowledge of a disability’ and disproportionate burden.

Disability Inclusion Policies

With over eighteen years' experience working directly in the recruitment, disability training and supported employment sectors, we bring a wealth of experience to businesses, access teams, HR professionals and line managers.

We work with organisations to implement Disability Inclusion Policies which demonstrate a commitment to best practice disability inclusion, while also offering support and advice to organisations who want to ensure effective implementation of policies and general employment supports. We also support organisations to develop Reasonable Accommodation Policies which are a valuable guide to ensuring best practice disability inclusive supports.

Recruitment Assistance

We advise and assist public service providers and private organisations when conducting large and small scale recruitment drives to ensure a recruitment strategy that is fully inclusive of people with disabilities.

With significant experience working directly in recruitment, disability training and supported employment, we have expansive knowledge of effective recruitment and support strategies when positively engaging disabled people in the recruitment process.
